The roads were constructed to connect the diverse ceremonial centers and towns of the zone and extend all the way up to several towns in the northern part of the Yucatan, some of them of very great distances. The sea is a paradise for divers and other aquatic sports lovers because of its wealth of marine life and coral reefs.
